Buy yourself a Razer and a oversized mousepad and never turn back. It takes a little bit to get used to but it's such an over whelming joy once you do. It's smooth, it runs nice. Easy for surfing, browsing, gaming etc. People always enjoy using my PC because of the setup.
Don't under estimate what having a nice mouse can do for ya.
As for the thread...I've had a Razer Diamondback for over two years now and still love this thing.
