I think that losing the backwards compatibility would really hurt the value of the ps3, making $399 not seem that good of a deal anymore. I hope that Sony chose to keep the BC but I have a feeling they didn't.
But isn't ps1 backwards compatibility software only? If that's the case, I can't see them removing ps2 BC and keeping ps1 BC. It just wouldn't make sense.
