As someone with half my family murdered there in the 1940's, and someone with a very German Jewish last name, Germany was a little far down on my "favorite places to visit" list anyway :)

Don't worry, you can go to jail for question Holocaust numbers there. I think your safe.

A 2007 Survey showed that 44% of the country still hold classic anti-Semitic views. If I were to go to Germany, it only takes one drunk guy in a bar to ruin my vacation.

No thank you.

I feel sorry for your family. But today you don't have to worry at all. People would tend to apologize to you more than insulting you. New synagogues are built and if you say there was no holocaust you can book your ticket straight into jail (holocaust denying is actually a crime). People might be more interested about your background in a positive way than you can ever imagine. I even can't remember a crime against anything jewish for years. And if something like this happens, there's a big public reaction to it. All the newspapers will call the offenders a shame. The neo-nazi party tends to have demonstrations with 50 followers and at least 500 demonstrants against it.

As for the paintball-ban. It's even in magazines like the German times magazine, the "Spiegel", critized as a upcoming election propaganda. So it's not sure yet, if it gets passed.

As someone who enjoys paintball from time to time, I see the point why they want to ban it, but even if, it makes no big difference, because you never have to drive for more than 3-4 hours from anywhere in Germany to get to another country, where it's allowed. In my case (I live in Munich) it's one hour to austria and 1,5-2 hours to czech republic.
