You don't need to abide in the cultural fantasies known as religion, to gather people for social interaction. One example is a music concert, another example is a comic book convention. Another example is forced institutions, like schools.
Common interests can bind people, the common interest doesn't need to be about a unproven theory about a magic sky man.
