Actually, I'd probably rank the NFL above religion in this country. It's hard to find a place that doesn't center around the sport from August-January.

 

So your saying more people nationally watch/spectate whatever a NFL match every week than go to a place of worship?  I find that hard to believe. 

In England a programme called Match of the day attracts 5 million people every week.  so 5 million people out of 60million watch a specific football programme.

Besides, the NFL is constructed entirely differently. Games are played on (mostly) two days of the week with multiple games occurring at once. Most people watch a local game, though Monday Night Football attracts some pretty huge numbers (too lazy to be bothered to go look right now).

And I know plenty of people who either reschedule their church time or skip it entirely for football (not including those who just don't give a shit about church in the first place). As for the numbers, I don't really care. But the NFL is huge here (Wisconsin just about shuts down when the Packers are on).

edit: Okay, I see what you're saying. Basically one out of twelve people in England watch a certain match once a week.

That is correct. But its a bit obscure because it is a programme on a saturday night that shows all the highlights of the matches 5 hours previous. Its still a football programme though. It just isnt a specific match.
