I think of atheists simply as people intelligent enough not to be religious. I don't judge them by other means, but then again, I dislike going into express details on groups. People matter, not what they are part of.

Frankly I find it just as scarey when people are *sure* that there is no God (atheists) as those who are sure there is one.

Being agnostic seems to most sensible choice IMHO.  To recognize that as a human its inherrently unknowable for us to determine if there is a god(s) or not.  So its as ridiculous to join a particular religion as it is to declare that there is definitely no god.

So you are basically saying that Ricky Gervais is ridiculous for being Atheist? :/

No human can prove that there is a god or that there is not.  The existence of gods is currently inherently impossible to prove or disprove for us as a species.  Atheists have a similar problem to believers in faiths, they feel a strong urge for a certain level of resolution in their minds.  To Islam its that god is a singular being named Allah.  To most ancient egyptians it was that there were a group of gods serving various functions.  To atheists its the *belief* that there is surely no god at all.

An agnostic is comfortable knowing that we don't have the capacity as a species to properly resolve this issue.  That there may be a god or gods, that they (or it, or him, or her) may be benevolent or manovolent, or that there may be no god(s) at all.
