yeah sony made with ibm and toshiba.
but toshiba its the manufacturer now or the main the at least.
and everything in the ps3 is expensive.. i think GPU may be the cheapest part.
it have a gloss black case = expensive.
all come with HDD= expensive.
1 ppu 3.2ghz +7 3.2ghz spu processor. 9 threads.
XDR 3.2Ghz main ram = VERY expensive.
nvidia RSX = its should be the cheapest to make its should be 45nm by now.
wifi and bluetooth = not expensive but cost extra $$.
and blu ray drive, it diode alone its over 50$
etc.

you have no idea wtf your talking about do you?
HDD expensive? Its a flipping 80GB 2.5" HDD. Its costs less then NewEgg's $35 80GB 2.5" drives because Sony buys in bulk. If the HDD costs Sony $20 per PS3 I'd be shocked.
Cell Processor probably costs about $110 each.
RSX GPU maybe $40?
XDR Ram, if they havent switched to using two sticks of XDR2 ram yet, $40 maybe
Casing isnt expensive but does cost like $20
CPU/GPU heatsink costs like $25
OK so far cost from my guestimate is $255. Now add in the following final pieces of hardware.
Blu-ray drive - $140
Motherboard w/ wifi built in - $30
So the PS3 costs Sony about $425 to make give or take.
So my guess is Sony isnt losing much anymore in terms of PS3 sales. Its still painful to lose the cash but they are close to breaking even. If the RSX or Cell shrinks one more time, Blu-ray drive cost drops again, or they switch to two sticks of XDR2 ram they should be able to break even before the end of the year.
No matter what they will make profit.
