According to all objective measures of what makes a "good" movie. None of the VG movies mentioned in this thread come up to the standard of a good movie. You can say that you personally like some of them, fine, you can say that some enjoyed box office success and there is no denying it. But neither of these things actually make a movie objectively good.

Personally my favourite VG adaptation so far is the Resident Evil series, and it is no surprise that they have made 3 movies in this franchise as they are pretty much the least bad of all VG adaptations I've seen. But under no circumstances would I call any of the 3 movies good movies. I enjoyed them for what they were, I had low expectations and they were met.

Please, in no universe could Gears of War rise to the level of BHD or We Were Soldiers. The source material is simply not up to it. And Starship Troopers was not great, it was fun, but not great. A great movie needs plot, character development, quality script all that stuff.

I'd love to be proved wrong about the quality of Halo, but I doubt I will. I have no doubt it would do well at the box office, there are milions of game fans that will see it because it is Halo. But if it's production cost is Spider-man 3 like (and suggestions is that it would be more) then even the game fans won't be able to help the studio to re-coup it's development costs.

Halo 3 10 Million sales WW LTD. Lets be generous and say 20 million people have played it and they will all go see the movie, and say that 20% will see it twice at the movies. Even with those numbers and the fact that it would make it the best grossing VG movie of all time, the production budget necessary for the movie will mean it will make a loss. Ultimately that is why the project has stalled and may never get picked up.

Dude a halo movie would be a blockbuster hit...no discussion about it
