I'm shocked that there is still people that think that the ten year plan means Sony won't come out with another console until 2016? there just going to keep supporting the PS3 until 2016 like all the other platforms Sony came out with...
Now that I got that off my chest, 2012 seems like a good year. Sony is playing it smart, looks like there going back to the PS1, PS2 days when there console was plain, simple and plays great games.
But only 2 times as powerful as the PS3? wasn't the PS3 40 times more powerful then the PS2?
So it looks like there not going to focus on graphics for the PS4 (which isn't really that bad of an idea, it'd make things much simpler and cheaper for them) so they must be coming out with something new and different aswell, it can't be just a console twice as powerful as the PS3 and that's it, there must be something different there adding to it.

Yeah, I'm not sure why people think 10-year plan means no other consoles releases. I will say this though...at this point, releasing a new ps console in 2012 would be problematic for continual support of ps3, unless there is more traction on gaining market share by the end of 2010. I'm not saying developers won't support the ps3, it's just that developers have limited resources, and maximum ROI is the goal. If the ps4 is going to be similar to the ps3 in programming for, this would be a plus, but if the nexbox and wii 2 are still much easier to program for, then those consoles would get the majority of developmental resources.

If you think that Sony will keep production of the PS3 after the PS4 comes out then you are crazy. It will be killed off just like the Cube and the Xbox was. The differance between the PS3 and its brothers is that they were in first place.

I didn't say they would...Sony did, since 10-year cycle means supporting the hardware and software for 10 years, imho. Maybe that isn't the case, but if that's NOT what sony means, then I guess the original xbox is still alive and well, since it still get a few games here and there. BTW, the cube is still alive and well, since the wii has nearly 100% B/C with that console...unlike the others. I don't think sony can launch the ps3 for $299 in 3 years, unless they relaunch the ps3 with only cosmetic changes...the cheapest I can see this console is at $400 for mass retail model. Sure newer chips will be more cost effective, but somebody has to pay for all that start-up cost.
