The sales excuses are hysterical.
As for MS and game studios, it looks like to me MS is moving away from the studio concept and moving to a model more similiar to other products. Developers at MS really have free reign to move from product to product (of course team has to have a need that fits the person) rather than being assigned to a team. Having studios running themselves gets in the way.
After all MS headcount has jumped from like 40,000 in 2000 to close to 100,000 now. Good deal of them likely to be building games.
Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.
