The good news is that Obama will appoint someone to replace him, right?

I do not share your sentiment that it is "good news," but President Obama does indeed possess the privilege of nominating Justice Souter's successor.

Since America is the most conservative out of any country on the planet, even a "liberal" would be considered ultra-right in most countries (certainly mine). All of the current conservative justices would be considered unelectable.

Of course, we don't have such a crossover between executive and judicial to have politically-coloured judges...

America is not the most conservative country on the planet, you would probably be looking at a country under Sharia law for that, maybe Saudi Arabia or something. Also socially liberal to the Americans is approximately moderate for most of the other Western countries in my opinion.
