I am not talking about consistency of delivery of games to market, but the marketing of games two years out to sell the console today for most console gamers is tantamount to a cock tease. The reality is this an announcement of a game should see the game arriving within a year. Not two or even three years out. You can make due with a couple exceptions, but the reality is that Sony developed a perception.
You can argue that conception was unfair. That the gaming public has no right to expect a quick delivery of a game that has no attached release date. That said the misconception is there, and Sony knows that misconception is there. That however did not stop them this generation from playing on that misconception. You simply cannot create unreal expectations without dealing with the fallout when they are crushed.
Now if your confused as to what I am saying go back on these very forums, and read the comments about the first holiday season, and what games the Sony loyalists were going to grace the platform. Rational posters would try to curtail their unrealistic ideas, but rarely to any avail. You couldn't convince most of them that they were not going to see Prologue, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, and so forth that year. To them Sony had shown it so it must be coming soon.
These are the exact same misconceptions perpetrated be deluded fans that made it so easy to give the PS3 handles like the delaystation, and Sony was in no hurry whatsoever to correct the flawed logic. You can see why though if the bologna could sell their console then well let the bologna fly. The problem is if your not setting the story straight then its your story. That is what has gotten Sony in hot water. You cannot hide behind technicalities when it comes to public perception.
