Are there any true platform games today? Think about it.
Many of the games that were once platforming are now about different things.
The Nintendo games are generally more platforming today than shooting. And the Mario games (at least) have evolved into 3D and been well received (as compared to Megaman -- which is hailed in 2D but not thought of as being as strong in 3D).
