Staude needs a history lesson.

Indeed he does.. I think they'll go with motion sensing eventually but it's a natural progression, Nintendo have created the new standard and it's only a matter of time before the others follow.. It's not a bad thing but they will copy just as they've always done..

No I don't..

Their rumble was better, their analogues were much better.. they saved third party developers from the extreme license costs that nintendo had put on publishing games on their systems. Not to mention they wanted to control what was at all released.

Furthermore they brought the console out of the kids room and into the living room, made it something cool for adults to play too

What really happened was all of the kids that played video games before Sony ever made a system had grown up. Sony didn't do anything magical here.

Nothing magical ? the ps1 sold more than twice as many consoles as any other console before it. Not only that, it's the second highest selling console of all time only surpassed by the playstation 2. Unless all of those kids somehow cloned themselves as they grew up.. i don't really see that happening. Especially concidering many kids who had a snes got a n64 and no ps1. So i believe you are very wrong here. Not only that, but most kids from the snes era would still be kids .. or atleast not have their own apartments by the time the ps1 came out.

Gaming started well before SNES or NES. Those people that started gaming in the 70's had become adults when the PS1 came out. People who had gamed as children were starting to have their own children (a primitive form of cloning). Please try to take this into consideration.

Well that group isn't that big. The ps1 was the first console to break into the mainstream and become a part of the household, not as a toy but as a cool gadget .. as a console for everyone.

, they convinced developers to go 3d on the ps1 despite many developers still wanting to stick to 2d games (they were afread of the expenses versus the results so sony brought in psygnosis who created and showed off some tech demos.. for instance the one of the dinosaur .. and the one with the mantis underwater... Also made them realise the expense jump wouldn't be as big as they had anticipated which all was things that convinced the developers to go 3d. )

AND ! They were the ones who brought motion sensing in first to many with the eyetoy. Not only that, the ps2 has various other third party motion controllers.. and accessories..

Sega had motion addons and I'm pretty sure they were out before Sony's.

Yes but did they go mainstream in any way ? cause the eyetoy most certainly did.

Motion controls were never really "mainstream" until the Wii released.

Only in the way that it was the official controller. The eyetoy was pretty successful. Moreso than any previous attempt.

I know the arcade point n shoot thing was around way before.. but the eye toy greatly expanded on it and made it more common.

They also had a patent for a wii like controller in 2004. Way before nintendo even concidered their controller..

Everything I've read about the wii controller says it started development in 2001.

So how does that translate to sony copying the wiimote ?

I never said they copied the Wiimote. I was just pointing that something you believed to be true was in fact not true.

That's fair enough but it's a pretty common statement by nintendo fanboys (which is a group i don't claim you belong too) that sony somehow made the sixaxis in 1 day never did anything related to motion controls before.

So. I think you guys might be the ones who needed that history lesson

@puffy Unfortunately people like to spin things in their favor. I'm not saying i aint doing it too but look at all the junk thrown my way because i spun that little picture around the other way around. The only thing i did was remove the negative and make it positive. Because it is. Everything i wrote on the picture is positive.. And i didn't attack any other systems. Yet so many still feel the need to tell me they think i'm wrong because they can't stand the thought that Sony actually did those good things ? Many of the views are even the same ones, just written properly instead of as a troll.

by skimming your post i will say this : 3d. What's your point ? sony came out with the ps1 first so it doesn't matter if the n64 had anything special for 3d. The fact of the matter is that ps1 was there first with the 3d gaming and due to it's success they became mainstream so early. .. Not to mention the fact that sony were also the ones convincing developers to go into 3d gaming. And yes doom and so fourth did also help.. but the playstation 1 was a huge part of it too.

Regarding the controller. Thers no reason to change it because it is as it should be. This goes to  @ stage too. I hate using the 360 controller.. buttons feel weird, the analogue feels misplaced.. I much prefere the dualshock. So your opinion isn't fact because it is.. exacly that.. an opinion. Just like mine.

If you notice, every year sony brings new things into the controller to improve it. Sure they removed rumble for a little because of the whole lawsuit but the sixaxis is awesome in the games it's used properly in.

And the wii mote is gimped. That is a fact man. Otherwise they wouldn't bring out motion + They gimped it because they were afread to take a small hit on the controller. Nintendo would never go in the red for it's consumers because they are too arrogant.

The wii mote is seen as a spot. Not as a line so the wii will never know where in the room it is. Not only that.. the wii motes run on batteries which is terrible.. (my first system ever with controllers with batteries i have to replace) AND the motion sensor bar ? you have to be right in front of it to work .. Damn.. i can't even sit down in my couch n use the wii mote if the sensors anywhere near the tv. That's a terrible design choice. The range is just.. too limited man.

Finally.. I'll wrap up with saying. Did i ever claim nintendo didn't start the analogue ? did i ever claim they never did anything to drive the industry ? no. I didn't.. But that's no reason to dispute sonys drive of the same industry. Because they have brought just as much to it.. Sure a lot of it is in other areas.. but it's just as important.
