Actually, I'm personally going with the "the PS2 was last generation. The ps3 is this generation." Hell, before the Playstation 2, there weren't any backwards compatible games for home consoles.

And I understand the reasoning too. Adding in a new analog stick would basically put the PSP into the "next generation." The UMD's might be an issue but I think Sony could easily fix it by having a small external UMD drive or something along those lines.

Also, the Atati 7800 was also backwards-compatible with the 2600.
