That's a long post, Onimusha, and gets directly to the heart of the discussion, I think. Here is the relevant quotation that I am directly responding to:
Are PCs technically and functionally identicle to Video Game Consoles? Yes. But to accept this and only this requires you to ignore the larger scope and practicality of the product's functionality and appeal in that Video Game Consoles are not AS customizeable and upgradeable as PCs and are not meant to be AS customizeable and upgradeable as PCs.
I absolutely agree that the 360 and PS3 are not AS customizable nor AS upgradable as PCs, nor are they meant to be.
Similarly, the Wii is not AS customizable nor AS upgradeable as the 360 or PS3.
I'll ask again: why do you feel the 360/PS3 are not in the same category as the PC (because the 360/PS3 are not "as customizable) while you suggest that the Wii is a console (even though it's significantly less customizable than the 360/PS3), and call any notion that the Wii is different "assinine?"
Because that seems like an obvious logical inconsistency to me. Either accept the PC as a comparable gaming platform to the 360/PS3, and acknowledge that the Wii is also a console; or, you can continue to insist that the PC is totally different, and also admit that the Wii isn't a console and can't be compared to the 360/PS3, because its functionality and customizability are far inferior.
But you cant' have it both ways. You can't insist the PC is entirely different because it's more customizable, but then simultaneously claim the Wii is exactly the same, even though it's much less customizable.
