In case anyone is interested into the technical details, here's a useful post by one notorious MS developer.
If you're not into technical stuff, but only an interested gamer who just wants the gist of it: no, it won't support 3d GPU acceleration.
Thus it will work ok to keep playing older 2d games that might no longer work in Windows 7, but nothing too new. Those 2d games might not even need this functionality, though, they might just work alright in the XP legacy mode under Windows 7 Home edition.
