Some of you are driving me nuts.

Since 1985 on consoles in North America there have been:

Super Mario Bro's
Super Mario Bro's 2
Super Mario Bro's 3
Super Mario World
Super Mario 64
Super Mario Sunshine
Super Mario Galaxy

Count them - 7 actual Mario's in 24 years. I might have missed one and I didn't include main Mario's on handhelds, but people seem to think that any game with "Mario" in the title is part of the main franchise. Mario is in a lot of games, but doesn't have a lot in his main series. All of those other games are in their own category and other than Mario Party are not released very frequently. Same thing with their other franchises.

7 main console Zelda's in 22 years
5 console Metroids since 22 years
4 Mario Karts since 17 years
3 Smash bro's since 10 years

I don't think any of them are overused.

OT: I don't think Sony overuses their franchises either. They should continue making games as long as they are making good games and people are enjoying them. Give the people what they want.
