next gen is not expected before 2012, in 3 years, more or less.
And perhaps economic crisis will slow it, what firm that has to reduce cost and make money can do a "ps3-like" r&d research while there is a crisis?
Also, ps2 is still selling, so why would leaders of this gen (meaning 360 and wii, in HD and ... i won't say it) change consoles when they are winning?
You know, genesis was there first because sega was losing against nes, same way with ps1 and saturn over N64 (snes was a beast, still releasing game in japan in 1996), dreamcast was released before ps2, microsoft was new and nintendo was changing game's support on their console. microsoft was losing and so was nintendo, they both released wii and 360 before ps3 (while not in NA and japan for wii).
