Sony is behind Capcom on this all the way because they want the PSP to rise from obscurity in the West. Monster Hunter was the game that did that for the PSP in Japan and they'd love to replicate that success in the West.
You can't promote the Monster Hunter brand on PSP without spreading awareness of the console version at the same time.
