Forza isn't inferior its everything gran turismo has plus damage and minus graphics.
The only reason GT sells so much better is because it has the name on it.
Point in case: GT5: Prologue got 80 on metacritic, Forza 2 got 90, the only reason why GT5: Prologue sold almost as much as Forza 2 is the name..nothing more nothing less.
Prologue could have gotten a 50 metacritic and it still would have almost sold the same, simply because of the name.
So really forza 2 is not inferior in the least to GT, it just isn't quite as well known and die hard GT fanboys won't even try playing it because they assume its a trash game.

Way inferior, to millions of GT fans it simply wont do.
Simple way to explain is all the Halo fans would not like K2 gamepaly. Now both games got reviewd +9s but that just wont do.
By the way for some one that argues agianst GTs popualrity you sure think its Name is uber powerfull enough to sell a 5/10 score by the millions.

Comparing KZ2 to Halo is like apples and oranges.
Forza and GT offer basically the exact same thing. They both are realistic driving sims that have decent to great graphics hundreds of cars, multiple tracks, online play. They are so close to each other in gameplay how could you like one and hate the other??
The ONLY reason why Forza doesn't sell as well is because it doesn't have GT on the name, and the millions of GT fanboys won't buy it simply because it doens't have the GT name on it.

That and GT is rated much much higher and offers much much more. GT5 for example is offering 800 cars and 96 tracks while forza 2 offered 300 and 96 tracks. GT is such a big name they release prologues, or big demos which are bigger then most games to fund the next game. They go out and use the money to buy cars, and crash them for example for damage in GT5.
GT3 was highly rated at 9.5 meta reviews.
GT4 took a downturn to 9.4 meta because it didn't really bring anything new.
GT1 was rated at 9.6.
GT2 was rated at 9.2.
Forza at 92 which by no means is bad. Forza 2 was 90.
GT is simply better quality, even GT5p was much much better graphically then forza 2.

Last time I checked they still aren't sure if there will be damage in GT5. And shouldn't you be comparing the list of cars from GT5 with those of Forza 3? If Forza 3 has damage and GT5 doesn't it's list of cars (each with its own damage) would be just as impressive.
The main reason I doubt GT5 will have damage is its huge car list. Each of those cars would have to add the damage, and that would take a lot more time and WAAAAYYYY more money to complete. So don't let the old excuse "the car manufacturer doesn't want us to add damage" work.
