I believe that the music,movie and even games industries have tried for far too long to gouge their consumers. Whether it be 15-20$ for a CD with 8 songs on it. Or 30$ DVDs. The game industry is notorious for this too.

You buy a game console nowadays and get the absolute bare minimum included in the box. Then the accessories are 10x the price that they should be. However, because of the position of power that they have over you they completely monopolize it.

People have found other methods that allow them to easily enjoy various forms of entertainment and neither of these three industries have found an answer to actually providing something worthwhile to discourage it.  Although things such as Steam for PC games and Add-On purchasable content or subscription based games all have found ways to succeed because of the model they have used.   The movie industry still lacks something solid... As does the music industry.
