The whole reason piracy exists is because people cannot afford the prices they are being asked to pay.

Blame it on marketing or brand name or what have you, but the best games/movies/music still have loyal fans and it's just that a lot of them have been burnt by hype, one good song on a cd, shitty gameplay, bad movies.

I'll tell you one thing:
most of the music I download is music I've already owned at some point in my life. The rest is music that I never intended to buy in the first place and I'm usually glad I didn't waste 15$ on it.
Same goes with the games. If I download a game and I really like it I will buy it. To me, torrents provide extended demos. I just bought DoW2 because I liked the storyline and wanted MP. I will buy diablo3 and starcraft2, and I'm glad I didn't waste money on ~60$ big name games like medieval 2 total war when the game is broken as shit.
