I've been beta testing Windows 7 since day one of public beta, and I think it's excellent. I will be installing RC1 on May 5th as well, and am already sold on a retail copy.
With the Windows XP thing, it should be mentioned (unless I missed it somewhere in the thread) that you don't even need a separate partition to do this. It will run right inside of Windows 7.
Making major performance improvements under the hood, making the beta open to anyone who wanted it, and now building XP virtualization into the OS have been very very very smart moves on Microsoft's part. And you can take it from someone who knows Windows 7 pretty well now--you will not be disappointed by this OS if you choose to buy it. It's quite good.
