They failed because they didn't sell as much as Crash? That's a high standard to live up to. I think they sold just fine - The only problem was that it didn't really distinguish itself from Ratchet & Clank, and each franchise pumped out a copy every year. I think if they took a year between games, gamers might be more willing to pick up the sequel.
If they failed, why do you want them to bring the series back? You think it will magically sell as much as Crash because it's on the PS3?
