A good example is GTA franchise, previous generation saw sales of 17.79M (GTA:SA), 14.20M (GTA:VC) and 11.60M (GTAIII). Now GTAIV is only at 5.56M and is the PS3 best selling game.

GT5:P is not doing very well too, considering it is massively bundled in Japan and that the game is only at 3 millions (while the only GT game on the PS3 yet).

 

All gta´s on ps2 come out before x-box, so it was "almost a ps2  exclusive". GTA 4 was released

simultaneously in 360/ps3 and 360 had ( and has ) a larger userbase.

 

GT4 prologue sold 1,36 m on ps2, less than a half of the 3 million of GT5 prologue on ps3.

 

Metal gear solid 4 sold approximately the same as  MGS2 and 3.

By these numbers GT5 can outsell Halo3.

 

 

 

 

 

You're ignoring the greater timelag between GT4P -> GT4 and GT5P -> GT5. It will be at least 50% -> 100% longer going fro m the prologue to the main game.

You're also ignoring the fact that GT3 was already released that generation, who would buy a demo when they can get the full retail product?
