gran turismo 3 was bundled for a long time, and stuck around for the whole console generation, I can still go buy it in stores. So you would have to consider the whole user base as it is now, which is around 140 milion consoles. Halo 3 is up there with a mere 30 million. GT5 won't be near the same amount of success. I think prologue is a very good indicator of what it's sells will be, I would be very surprised if it sold more than a million or 2 more than prologue.

It well sell at least 4-5 mill more than that Prologue.

you say that with such certainty, do you have a time machine?  I honestly don't see how it could sell that many.  With a lifetime userbase going to be about half of what the ps1 was, I don't see how it could match the sells of the previous games.

Plus, the racing genre is nearly as popular as it once was.

Go back and read the edit....explain MGS4 vs MGS3 when the userbase is DRASTICALLY different.

pretty simple explaination really... Marketing.  Metal gear solid 4 had a huge marketing campaign and a near perfect review score.  Metal gear solid 3, on the other hand, had almost no marketing involved and did not fair that well in reviews.  Also, Metal gear solid 4 was bundled with the last backwards compatible model of ps3 sony offered.  So yeah, there are reasons for their sales equality.

Now, if sony bundles gran turismo 5 like they did 3, then they might have a chance of selling your numbers.  Otherwise, I don't think the game has the capability of selling that much.

MGS3 received underwhelming reviews, really? I'll investigate that.

However, do we know of how of those bundles were counted in VGs #s? Without that info, your point is rather moot. As for marketing, lol, you can bet your ass GT5 will have far more marketing than ANY PS3 exclusive to date.

as far as mgs3 reviews, it didn't get terrible reviews, just nothing near metal gear solid 4.  I think it average somewhere in the 8's if i remember correctly.

no doubt sony will market the crap out of gt5, but thats not my point.  You were asking me to explain the sales of mgs4 in comparison to metal gear solid 3.  There is a huge difference in the marketing of those games.  The gran turismo games have always been heavily marketed.

edit:  yeah, so mgs3 did a little better then i remember.  but still not as good as metal gear solid 4 which was my point.
