Ironman triathlon (4km swim, 180km on a bike and a marathon back to back). It doesn't require concentration in the same way that Formula 1 does, but the amount of mental toughness, not to mention physical conditioning required is astounding to me.

Ironically, Jenson Button, an F1 driver, participates in triathlons.

Incidentally that's how Lance Armstrong started out, but Button did a sissy little triathlon:P  When talking about the MOST demanding i'm only referring to Ironman Triathlon.

Sure it's not Ironman hard, but my point was to show how conditioned these guys are and that, despite that, you're still seeing 180BPM+ in races (and 230BPM+ in qualifying).  These guys have resting heart rates in the thirties, too.  Add on to that physical strain increidble precision at speeds so fast things happen before you can think through them, and it's mind boggling how a human can do that.  I watched a Top Gear video in which Richard Hammond, a guy who reviews cars for a living and can drive them pretty well, attempted to drive an F1 car and failed miserably.  Not only do you need crazy balls to be doing the insane speeds they do right before braking hard into a turn, but he talked about how he'd be thinking as he was going down a straight "Ok, I need to brake har..." and he'd already be through the turn (you finish braking before you even begin to turn).
