Cause the average person doesnt know how to download HD movies, or any movie for that matter. Or they dont care to. By your logic a lot of things arent necessary. Shoot, video games arent really necessary but we all buy them.

The "average" person owns an HDTV, enjoys watching movies in HiDef, doesn't know how to download movies, own a VCR and don't know how to hit "record".. ??

Back in the day, vcr was new tech, and a lot of people didn't know how to record stuff.
This refers to the point that yeah, people may be able to buy a BR disc and put it in a player, but may not be able to download HD movies.
