We sent the Spanish running. Then took many rich Belgian protestants (and Portugese?) in which got ourselves into a Golden Age. Ruled the seas, invented stocks, were the first to have a settlement on Manhatten island, fought (and won) 4 Anglo-Dutch wars, had a Dutchman on the throne of England, traded in slaves, killed of whole island populations and were then defeated by combined English, French and Germanic armies. Later we were the last to abolish slavery, were forced to give up Indonesia by the US and the word "Apartheid" is ours.
Isn't that great.
