I checked the exchange rates, and actually, 399EUR is real possibility, because 1 EUR now equals $1.40 US. So that 399EUR price tag is the equivalent of $559 US - a steep drop from the current 599EUR ($839) price tag for European PS3s but very close to breakeven on the hardware, thanks to some efficient cost-reduction.

The good news for consumers is, Sony doesn't have any pressing reason to reduce any of the functionality of the system. All those card readers and slots should stay, they're quite cheap. There might be a smaller harddrive, is all, but you can replace that with a bigger one or just hook up an external drive.

Don't forget about:

- VAT (which alone would make it ~470$ for Sony or less, depending on the countries)

- higher retailer margin than in USA

- EU recycling fees
