You have to take in to account that reasonable is a closet PS3 fanboy.
I mean he says he is reasonable but who really thinks that.

Why would pointing out PC FPS titles have more influence on FPS genre in total vs Halo be about the PS3? If anything I'm a closet PC fanboy - as in as much as I like playing Halo/Gears with friends, or KZ2 on PS3, or CoD4 on 360 and PS3 I would still state the best FPS experience is to be found on PC - whether online, offline or at a LAN party.

The biggest FPS influencer series overall are the Half Life and CoD series, period, in both sales, influence on FPS gameplay mechanics and still THE FPSs you copy from overall.

If anything Halo was as much a bad vs good influence - good in that it showed FPS really could rock on a console, bad in that it (accidently) killed invoation on console FPS as almost all console specific FPS simply try and match it. CoD4 was such as success becasue it didn't really - it was the latest in a super successful, PC orientated series of FPS and number 4 merely saw its success brought to consoles properly for the first time.

EDIT: not that I ever hid this. I'm not upset like some PC orientated FPS gamers that console's, particularly in US/UK, are now seen by many as the main platform for FPS - I simply prefer the superior PC experience (in terms of better graphics, controls, etc. which are superior technically) vs the console advantage of sitting in a couch playing coop with buddies and low cost and ease of use for that particular genre.

Ok My comment may have been unfair and I apoligise for that.

I would add though that I have never seen you post anything positive about the 360.

I stand to be corrected of course Reasonable.

No problem.  I treat this site as a console site but the one area my PC heritage bursts through is FPS!

As for 360 I don't have one but play on friends, therefore I simply rarely post about it or review the 360 forum pages.  I don't think I've ever been negative about it unfairly, though.  Just like Sony there is good/bad you could say about the console and it's titles and there's no doubt it's selling well compared to Xbox sales,

I think MS have done well with 360, particularly in UK/UK/Ireland.  For me 360 simply didn't release at the right time - I don't see it in any kind of a negative light that stopped me getting one.  When it launched I wasn't looking for an HD console.

When I did want to get an HD console PS3 had just won the HD format war and I wanted to get a BR player, and seeing the two consoles as having roughly the same libraries at that point I plumped for PS3.  Gameswise I think they're pretty equal really.  360 multiplatform versions tend to be better and it has good exclusives, PS3 multiplatforms are nonetheless fine and it has plenty of good exclusives, too so I didn't see myself losing either way.

Also, at that point in time I tended to buy 360 titles on PC or assume they'd hit PC so it's appeal wasn't as strong vs say knowing that if I went 360 I'd miss out on titles like Uncharted that interested me.

Still, just to show I can I'll state that (based on my playtime at friends and my general view of the console):

1) 360 has a great SDK and an architecture that has clearly made it easier for any PC centric developer to get to grips with quickly.  It's approach also makes it easy to decide what configuration/extras you want vs a single choice SKU

2) Live is very good.  I don't like the charge just because I'm a PC player at heart but the service is good, particularly the friends/party elements.  Certainly it compares well with PC centric online gaming support if you leave out the additional cost.

3) 360 general multiplatform titles tend to look a little sweeter still, not by much, but it's there (that's comparing PS3/360 obviously, and leaving my PC out of it).  I think this is down to how many developers are releasing games for PC/360/PS3 and are simply finding the PC/360 element easier

4) Halo, Gears, etc are all very good fun and well made titles and I like some of the gems from the store like Braid - actually as an aside I've actually enjoyed the best PSN/Live store titles more than many big games.

5) The controller seems a little better for FPS than PS3 (that might just be me though)

See?  I can do it.  And it didn't even hurt.

Nearly.

Any way I would agree with most of what you are saying.

In all fairness it is human nature to defend what we buy with our hard earned cash.

I have no doubt if mine or your purchase had  been the opposite we would be singing from different hymn books.

For me personally I was amazed at the AI in Halo 3.

When I started it I actually wasnt too impressed but as I got into it it really impressed me.

Thats just my take as I only play single player for the most part.

And Yes I do think the PS3 is a good console with lots of extras 360 does not have.

See I can as well.

Mind you it hurt a little bit.
