Yes, I'm young... I'm not saying that Blu-ray is going to overcome the DVD in a only a few years, but that it will simply grow significantly, while DVDs can only go down.
Obviously there's a shit load of DVD players around, you don't need to tell em that. I think that DVDs have reached their near peak of saturation, and more players aren't going to result in more sales in DVDs anymore, as everyone has at least 1.
I can see your point about DVDs in cars, I used to play travel hockey, and I saw one of my team mates looking at the DVDs sold at the place (which were $20 O.o, and so he passed). However I don't you think you're overestimating the effect minivans with tv's will have? You make it sound like it's going to be a huge revolution, due to your personal experience as a parent who travels a lot. What about young single people like me who have disposable income? If you were in charge of the movie industry, you'll be shooting down every gory R-rated film because the only time you go to the theatre is to watch kid films. And even though you'll be buying the next disney film on DVD, are you really just not going to buy a Bluray player at all, and never buy a film just for yourself and your wife? Are you going to stay at SD forever, or is BR just an exception, and wait until Super HD is finally broadcasted on TV?
You mentioned in your previous post portable DVD players. I don't want to lug something bigger than a CD player (and the DVD collection), when I can just use my iPod touch.
As for your overall argument of how Bluray is expensive, and DVD is cheap, you can apply that to most technology. Why buy a PS3/360, when a PS2 is cheaper? Why did you buy an HD tv in the first place? To experience HD resolution, with games and tv only?
And you don't think that Bluray will eventually become cheaper? Do you really think nobody will buy a Bluray movie if it becomes $15, in favor of a movie on DVD?
I don't understand why only HD movies are considered undesireable. We can continue to use your logic, when Super HD comes, and the next set of resolutions come. Nobody think it's worth watching movies in HD, so they'll continue to watch in SD.
