Well, I haven't done history outside of school, but I prefered world history. I think the main reason was that it was less detailed though, because there's so much of it.
Not counting the first few years because it wasn't very serious, but we had a year of ancient history, a year of history up to WWI, then WWI+ WWII + a bit after that. And since those are pretty expansive there weren't a billion dates and names to remember.
After that the last two years were a pain with everything all over again, but detailed and focused.
