Sony got beatdown by MS, who released their console way earlier than sony was expecting. They were expecting the next X-Box to release in late 2006 or early 2007, and sony was expecting to respond mid to late 2007, but microsoft released late 2006. Sony had to rush out the PS3 a full year ahead of schedule, and even then MS had a year head start on sales. Then nintendo comes out of nowhere and destroys sony in the japanese market, which was where sony was expecting to just rake in profit.
Wii has more 20 million sellers than PS3 has 5 million sellers.
