What Viper1 said, PS3 has little RAM... and when you put it on a crappy 128-bit bus width, it just worsens the problem.

Off-topic: Hey Viper1, isn't it great when you can get 4GB of RAM for under $150? For me it tastes just like victory.

If they are talking about dropping maps, its probably memory related.

Some maps are just too large, allow to many players, use too many textures (etc).

Don't forget the PS3 has ONLY 256MB of system RAM (minus what the OS uses) + texture RAM.

If you tried to run this on a PC with only 512MB (+ extra for OS) the game would laugh at you.

...

So I wouldn't worry too much - just possible that there are some insanely detailed maps, and they don't fit in RAM. You do wonder about hard-disk use though - and using virtual memory on the PS3??

(the problem is likely to also be present on the 360 - and possibly worse)

I wouldn't suggest it.  The PS3 uses a 5400 RPM IDE HDD.  All PC drives are 7,200 to 10,000 (like my Raptors in RAID 0) and almost all new PC HDD's are SATA.

Oh and the developers already said the same maps won't be on X360.  Given that both have the same memory limitation vs PC's, it seems to be the logical limitation the developers were referring to.
