If we look at the sales trends this generation, it's obvious that Japan is the one territory where sales are heavily influenced by the software which has been coming out (and this goes for all of the platforms). Software is what's needed in Japan, MH3 and WSR will be big and might keep the Wii up for a few months at least.

I tend to agree with this. Japan in the last number of years seems to not be console centric, but more software centric(as it should be). I don't believe the cooldown it related to the console specificly, but due to the lack of appealing software. At the moment Japan seems to be either serious focused games or very broad software entertainment with little room in the middle. Once games that appeal to the Japanese tastes start coming out again software and hardware sales will start going up.
Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.
