I agree to a degree on Killzone 2, but not CoD4. At most IW would have used Halo as a template of what you could achieve with FPS on console, but they are one of the leading lights of FPS and arguably the masters currently of both PC/console based FPS titles with Valve concentrating on PC still although creeping onto consoles and 360 in particular and Bungie much more console centric.
I really doubt we wouldn't have got CoD4 without Halo.
Also, for the record, while I always assume most topics on this site are about consoles by default, when we're talking genres then I see that including PC if relevant - and in the case of the FPS genre PC couldn't be more relevant.
Therefore while no doubt many posting here only really know FPS through console doesn't mean a topic such as this about the genre should focus only on console.
The OP was Halo responsible for many good games today? I believe, not as an opinion, but more quantatatively based on the roots of the genre the answer is no - or no more than the many other multi-million selling FPS titles (and remember titles like Half Life on PC sell just as much and have had arguably more influence on the genre, influincing Halo rather than the other way around).
If the question was, would there by a 360 without Halo? Or the success of FPS on console without Halo? Then the answer would be yes.
I feel some posters are confusing the two as they see FPS as console centric or only really know the genre based on consoles.
So Halo has had huge impact, but more on the success of the genre on a specific platform (consoles) rather than directly influincing the latest games in that genre - i.e. almost all FPS including Halo are based on mechanics established prior to Halo on PC, however thanks to Halo many more titles are now made and released on consoles.
In other words Halo has had more influence on the industry than on its own specific genre (in terms of gameplay mechanics).
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
