Halo 3 is in HD. As long as it is upscaled and my TV responds with 720p, then it's in HD. The 640p debate is irrelevant. The game is incredible.

Halo 3 isn't rendering in HD, 576 p/i PS2 games can be upscaled to 720p and 1080p by the PS3, but nobody would claim PAL PS2 games are really HD. Upscaling often enhances overall picture quality on HDTV sets, but you do not get any additional detail added. That's why Blu-Ray movies look so much better on 720p and 1080p TV sets as compared to the best upscaling DVD players on the market.

The 640p debate isn't irrelavant at all, people are discussing technicals and are thinking about the genuine reasons for this limitation. If the game is good or not in your opinion is actually far more irrelevant in such discussions, as people are referring to technicals. Yes, pacman is fun, why shouldn't it be good to discuss the technicals if a system wouldn't be able to draw graphics in more than 4 colors? Irrelevant because Pacman is a good game?

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."
