Consoles should never be thrown away or recycled. Even if one dies there are ways to get it fixed (even if it is a very old system and the manufacture doesn't fix it themselves). Only crappy old cellphones and other electronics should be recycled. Although, I think I have thrown out an old Saturn that stopped working (got the Saturn for free at least). I may have set it on the side of the dumpster not too sure.
