Sony, in honor of Earth Day, on Wednesday announced the launch of its GreenFill recycling service. Sony is billing the service as the first of its kind- an in-store drop-off recycling option sponsored not by a retailer but a CE manufacturer.

The company said that 81 retailers have joined the program for its launch.

"Sony's GreenFill program is providing consumers with a convenient, sustainable solution for recycling small electronic products," Sony executive vice president Mike Fasulo said as part of the announcement. "We are continuing our commitment to reach our goal of recycling one pound of old consumer electronics equipment for every pound of new products sold."
