Recently Ubisoft announced a PSP version of the PS360 game Assassin's creed 2, and now EA has announced Dante's Inferno for the PSP, coming from PS360 as well. Is this an important part of publishers' strategies to try and get back to profitability?
It seems like the PSP is gaining some developer support, perhaps to the detriment of the Wii which has rarely gotten versions of PS360 games (usually getting spin-offs and ports of older games in a franchise such as Dead Space Extraction, Dead Rising: CTYD, the Castlevania fighter etc.).
Is this new or has it been going on for a while? Is it just a coincidence?

Assassin's Creed 2 for PSP is not a port, it's entirely different game.
Two EA teams are working on Dante's Inferno, so that's probably not a port, either.
Sony somehow managed to convince western developmers to significantly increase the number of their PSP offerings, which is great.
Don't forget Koller said three quarters of upcoming PSP games have yet to be announced.

That's not what I read regarding Assassin's creed 2:

Was there some later information about the PSP version?

“Assassin’s Creed” PSP
“One of the first to be very open about jumping back into the PSP world was Ubisoft. The ‘Assassin’s Creed’ idea popped up early. And we were able to announce that this week. That’s been a project in the making for quite a while.” Koller said this game won’t be an attempted port of the forthcoming “Assassin’s Creed 2″: “It’ll be a completely different game, unique to the PSP.”
