khuutra's predictions:
Nintendo is problematic in that they've kind of taken every prediction we've tried to make since the spring of 2006 and kicked it square in the face. There has not been a single E3 - or any press event - since then where I've been able to call the events that took place. So I will say, right at the beginning, that I'm going to make predicitons about what I think Nintendo is goign to do, but i'm going to be more surprised if I'm right than if I'm wrong.
1. I fully expect this E3 to balance the focus placed on core customers and mainstream customers - it's not going to be a tour de force that makes fanboys declare them the "winners" of E3, but they will show materials to cover both camps. They want to have really positive PR.
2. The conference will focus primarily on the Wii, with the DS/DSi taking on a secondary role.
3. We will see one major core game announced for release in the fall. This will utilize an existing property.
4. We will see a second core game property announced, but people won't pay as much attention to it because it will be an original IP.
5. As much as I want it, we won't be seeing Zelda Wii this E3. If I had to bet money, it would be either a new Mario or (oh please oh please oh please) a new Starfox.
6. We'll get definite worldwide release dates on several games, in particular Sin and Punishment 2. S&P2, for reason inexplicable, will come out in the EU before the US. There will be a 3-man riot in Harlem following this announcement.
7. Nintendo will announce firm details for their video-on-demand-on-Wii service and show pricing details. There will also be a new channel announced, but I have absolutely no idea what it will be about. I hope it is cool.
Let's see....
8. And what the Hell: there'll be an original Final Fantasy title announced for the Wii, though it may not be a numbered entry and this won't be part of Nintendo's showing.
That last one is a real shot in the dark. Actually, these are all shots in the dark.
9. Nintendo moves in mysterious ways.
1. Maybe. I honestly don't think Nintendo gives a shit about pleasing the core when it comes to stuff like this. They know guys like you and I will be at their beck and call no matter what, longing for the next Zelda, Mario, or whatever. They'll just show whatever big they have to show. If it's another Wii Fit-esque title, then that's what it'll be.
2. It's quite possible, but I think Spirit Tracks will garner a lot of attention. They may choose that time to announce a DSi/Spirit Tracks holiday bundle as well (which I WILL be buying, if there is one lol).
3. It's likely.
4. Do you think this will be a core title as well? Honestly, most of Nintendo's new IPs this gen have focused more on the blue ocean crowd, while they've been reviving old franchises for us. Bring on Kid Icarus!
I wish... ='(
5. A new console Mario before a new console Zelda? Highly unlikely, in my opinion. We haven't had more than one console Mario per gen since the SNES days, and it's been over 2.5 years since TP, compared to merely 1.5 years since SMG. A new handheld Mario, however, is feasible.
6. Quite probable, including the riot.
7. Don't know much about this, so I won't comment lol.
8. If this happens, it'd probably happen at TGS. I can't think of much SE has announced at E3 aside from FFXIII, and that was back when E3 was still the mother of all trade shows.
9.
