I have a hunch: Sony is going to be very aggressive in pushing PS3 in 2nd Half of 2009..
I don't know but i have a feeling Sony is trying to buy time right now and in the start of the 2nd Half of 2009 they are going to be very aggressive in pushing PS3.
This push is going to be very strong by
1. Price Cut
2. Very strong showing in E3 2009.
and
3. lastly after price cut i believe they are going to advertise it very strongly too.
4. some very interesting bundles
The reason i believe for this hunch is that sony has amended in lot of ways.
1. From his interviews i feel Sir Howard is always pushing more towards Software side and also he gives centre importance to PS3.. thats why i believe one of the division which is getting most importance is SCE division. I haven't heard of any job cuts in this division despite Sony facing huge losses, cuz he believes it is going to play central role in Tomorrow's Sony
2. Sony has stopped making game announcement too much in advance. Lately they are annoucing game when around a yr is remaining in its launch. I am not talking abt 2005 or 2006 or 2007 announcements. I am talking abt announcement from 2008 and onwards. They announced like R2, Fat Princess, Uncharted 2, MAG all of which are going to be released within this yr. Having a yr to build hype is very reasonable.
3. They have lessened making stupid comments as frequently as they use to be.
4. Some incentives like Pub Funds and loweing the development kit cost are sure positive moves which are going to bear fruit soon.
5. they have started making better ads for atleast PSP, so hoepfully other exclusives and PS3 and its titles will also start getting some reasonably good ads.
6. Many new faces have been promoted, so definitely some new ideas and concepts are going to be tested now for increasing the sales of PS3.
So overall i see that they are going to put up a very strong fight now once they get the manufacturing cost down by moving to smaller process of CELL chips and chipsets and other component's cost reduction. This is expected to happen around mid of this yr.. So after that they will get more freedom to manuver and launch a counter attack..:)
