I've bookmarked this thread right next to my Hulu tab, so the next time I have some time for TV I'll try to catch up on all the recommendations here.
Also, the day after Avatar came up, we had a presentation on Avatar in my anime class, and I brought up the "but it's not an anime!" debate, and every student, both professors, and the TA thought it was nuts and all agreed it's an anime. The lecture was on "the transnational qualities of anime." It seems that debate only exists on the internet, and not in academia.
