See I'm the opposite, I came from having a 360 (I played ME, BIoshock, Halo 3 and Gears 2. All the big titles that came out by mid 2008) and I feel the opposite.
I guess you do get sucked into the games, literally the only games I feel I enjoy more (thus validating the PS3 purchase) than games on the 360 are MW1 (which happened to be on the 360 too, and I played it on that. So this is more a compensation), Fifa 09 (didn't by Fifa on 360), Prince of Persia, MGS4 and to a certain extent Uncharted.
Gears is fun if you're not overhyped with it, it's a fantastic game.
With Killzone 2, I think it's a good game made great by a fantastic coat of pant (graphics). That's probably how you see Gears 2 (well with less paint).
Anyway, thank your dad for contributing to the 360's lead over the PS3 next week (relax, I'm just kidding, though I do think the 360 will be ahead in next weeks sales anyway).
I recommend sticking with the 360 until post e3, see what MS brings. If it's not to your liking, ebay it.
