It just like Ninty last gen. Gamecube 3rd place in sales but still end up with some profit. Microsoft may win 2nd place but they lose more than 6 billion. Sony probably want PS3 end by having some profit, so they still has some money to invest for next gen console.
Actually it was Sony fault for using BR in PS3. If they use DVD9 Sony probably far ahead now. Launch PS3 with just $399 (same as X360) will kill X360 instantly and left Wii behind. All high profile games will remain exclusive. Blu-Ray is good but not for gaming. The only advantage BR has is more space. Disadvantage ? A lot. Harder, longer and more expensive to develop games cause 3rd party dev went multiplat or X360 exclusive, very expensive tech.
