According to wiki, this system isn't used everywhere (Japan, Asia) and you can also buy prepaid cards in the US. Given wiki has answered my main question (you pay into a "wallet" not on a per transaction basis), is there a minimum amount you can add to your "wallet" at one time?

not that i know us, it always give u a choice of how much u can add.
