It is most noticeable, he says, with the PlayStation 3 console — a device which he had hoped would spearhead Sony's efforts to blend the hardware and content businesses in a networked environment.

It's apparent Sony has always had big things in mind for the ps3, reaching far beyond just SCE, and it looks like they're not giving up on that. Between pushing Blu-ray, to delivering content from Sony Pictures and Sony BMG via the PlayStation Store, it could be really big, but the price and a few issues with the general network (the music store still doesn't actually exist, the video store is currently exclusive to the US, and they haven't yet managed to get IPTV to ps3s outside of a few countries in Europe) have kept it from becoming something more.

Ultimately, it's the price.  I *hope* that they'll announce a price drop to $299 at E3, with the Silver ps3 coming in as a new high-end SKU. However, I'm not sure they can afford it just yet, and it's more likely that they'll wait until the holidays.
