I borrowed RE5 from a friend and finally got around to playing it last night. I pretty much like any game that lets me shoot something or somebody, but I'm finding RE5 to be a chore. I've played all of the past installments, so I knew what to expect from the controls, but it had been several years since I last played a RE title. I've played a lot of shooting/action games in the years since and aside from a shiny coat of paint, this game feels absolutely primitive by comparison. I can't move and shoot. Punches and kicks are context sensitive. Etc.
I can go on and on here and I'm sure there are other people who feel the same. The only reason IMO that this game got such high scores is because it was called Resident Evil. If any other developer had put this same game out by any other name, it would have gotten completely trashed by critics for its terrible controls. It's time that RE fans and the media let go of their nostalgia for past entries in the series and admit that this series needs to get with the times. EA has proven that you can make a superb suvival horror/action game while moving and shooting at the same time.
I may return this game to my friend without ever finishing it.
Keep this in mind when reading what I type...
I've been gaming longer than many of you have been alive.
